Using the Martial Arts as Part of a Senior Exercise Plan - 09/24/2012
As we age, we often think of things we wanted to do but haven't yet done. Many of us try to find satisfying activities, sometimes for fitness, sometimes for the camaraderie a regular activity in a specific field can provide. Some of us worry about being robbed or being attacked because we make an easy target. Some just want to try something they haven't done yet...something far different from what they have done before. We have many good, and not so good, reasons to take up one of the martial arts in our later years. Above, I mentioned fitness and camaraderie...both important to senior health and longevity. Both are also very real benefits of pursuing these activities. The confidence which comes with knowledge of, and skill in, some form of self defense is valuable at any age. At any age, the martial arts teach self-discipline, mental focus, and most certainly provide physical activity, and, when taken in a class setting, provide the so...
