Agrigento Sicily: be quick when you carry a tripod!
I visited Agrigento (Sicily, Italy) recently and, of course, the
Valley of the Temples was one of the highlights.
A very beautiful site during the day, but even more so at night.
So, I visited in the late afternoon, waited until sunset, took a few freehanded pictures and unpacked my tripod.
Fortunately I was quick and took quite a number of photos before a guardian approached me and told me that professional photography was not allowed and that I needed a special permit (which, of course was impossible to get at the site and especially at the time of day).
Pointing out that this was NOT for professional use didn't help:
whoever uses a tripod MUST be a professional.
So, if you ever go there, there are at least 3 options:
a) try to get a permit beforehand
b) use high-speed film (although the results will be inferior)
c) be quick.
"option d" would involve trying to bribe an official, which might
work, but it also might get you into real trouble...
